Telangana State and Maharashtra governments on Friday decided to complete the long pending inter-state Lendi irrigation project on Godavari by the end of 2018 by resolving the land acquistion, rehabilitation and resettlement issues under the project at the earliest.

Hyderabad: Telangana State and Maharashtra governments on Friday decided to complete the long pending inter-state Lendi irrigation project on Godavari by the end of 2018 by resolving the land acquistion, rehabilitation and resettlement issues under the project at the earliest.

The coordination committee meeting, attended by the top Irrigation officials from the two States, discussed in detail the bottlenecks in executing the project taken up to create additional ayacut in the two states.

As Telangana had already paid Rs 183 crore to Maharashtra for the construction of the project, the officials informed their counterparts that the TS government was ready to provide more funds in view of escalation of the project cost.

State Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, who was on Nizamabad district visit, spoke to Maharashtra Chief Engineer B D Tonde on phone and assured him all kinds of assistance for the speedy completion of the project. The Minister said land acquisition, rehabilitation and first phase works of the project would be completed by June 2017.

It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao wrote a letter to his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis and requested to come forward for the completion of the project without further delay.
