Nizamabad: Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said that the State government has sanctioned Rs 5,000 crore for setting up of 251 residential schools in the State during this academic year.

As a result, 1.70 lakh students would get admission in schools this year, he added.

The Agriculture Minister said that new buildings would be constructed and 2,670 teaching and 650 non-teaching posts have been sanctioned by the government to impart education from KG to PG levels. He said that talks had been held with the State level officials to allow the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes students of Pitlam village and the backward classes students of Nizamsagar to stay in the integrated residential hostel in Acchampet.

Minister Pocharam said that the State government has chalked out a programme to improve the water supply for irrigation and drinking purposes. In this connection, the State government has sanctioned Rs 115.25 crore for the modernisation of distributaries, Rs 8.64 crore for repairing canals and Rs 5.68 crore for dam construction works, he added. He said that efforts were being made to fill up the Nizamsagar project in another two years with through lift irrigation from the Kaleshwaram dam.

The Minister for Agriculture said that after completing the Mallannasagar project, water would be supplied for irrigation purposes to 40 lakh acres of land covering four districts and for Nizamabad, seven lakh acres would get water for irrigation purposes.

In his speech, Jukkal MLA Hanmanth Shinde said that the government has sanctioned huge amounts of funds for development of the district and repairs in the Nizamsagar dam. He said that Rs 25 crore were sanctioned for the construction of highways and pipelines were being constructed for supplying water from Singur to Jukkal. Efforts were being made to bring reforms in the education system, he added.

Zilla Parishad Chairman D Raju, Additional Joint Collector Rajaram, RDO Shyam Prasad Lal, Esecutive engineer Krihna Reddy and others were present.

Later, at another function in Banswada, Minister Pocharam distributed honorary cheques to Imams and said that the State government would organise official celebrations of all religious festivals.
