Hyderabad: The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission on Thursday maintained the same tariff for domestic consumers consuming 100 units per month, but affected an average 7.5 per cent hike in electricity charges. The burden on consumers is Rs 1,527 crore as against Rs 1,958 crore proposed by the Discoms across all categories.

TSERC secretary P Srinivas Reddy said that the new tariff would come into effect from July 1. The secretary said that there was no increase in tariff for domestic consumers with less than 100 units per month (around 60 lakh consumers) and farmers (around 20 lakh consumers), except for horticulture nurseries up to 15 HP.

Slabs under the domestic and non-domestic categories have been merged with a view to simplifying the tariff structure. A new category for hair cutting salons under LT-II non-domestic for consumption up to 200 units per month has been introduced.

The IT assessees have also been included in the free category under LT-V Agriculture and Urban Horticulture Nurseries have been included along with rural horticulture nurseries under LT-V agriculture.

A new category HT-V (B) Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) has been introduced as a sub-category under HT-V railway traction.

Time of Day tariff has been introduced to aid in flattening of the day load curve while incentivizing off-peak hour consumption for eligible customers.

The new ToD charges would be Rs +1 for 6 am to 10 am and Rs -1 for 10 pm to 6 am. The Discoms had proposed 55 paisa as incentive for 10 pm to 6 am. The tariff for poultry farms would be Rs 2 per unit.

The government of Telangana has given its commitment to provide subsidy of Rs 4,584.50 crore for the financial year 2016-17 under Section 65 of the electricity Act, 2003.
