Govt high school in Borgam mandal re-writing history
Set to close admissions
Nizamabad: The Government High School in Borgam mandal, 3 km from here, is all set to re-write history, bringing back the old glory to the state-run institutions with an unprecedented number of 1,110 students on its rolls. In spite of the presence of about 30 private schools around the village with over 25 private managements operating school buses, the government school has achieved high enrolment offering quality education to its students. Going by this trend the school in all likelihood may put up a ‘Admissions closed’ sign at its entrance.
The scene is reminiscent of the situation a decade ago when government schools were active with students, with parents leaving and picking up their wards on a daily basis. But with the gradual deterioration of conditions in these institutions and private schools mushrooming everywhere, there was a drastic fall in their attendance.
The reasons for the success of the Government High School in Borgam are good facilities, importance given to teaching, dedicated faculty, support by representatives of the village committee and parents. It is noted for salient features like adopting strict time schedule, description by teachers backed by illustrations on important topics, weekly reviews, week-end tests, special counseling for weak students and regular meetings with parents.
No wonder it has become famous as the No 1 school in the district, thanks to its special focus on sports and spiritual thinking. It runs digital and computer classes and holds physical fitness tests and health camps once a month. The school is attracting students from other areas like Aryanagar, Bank Colony, Vinayak Nagar, Madhavnagar, Pulang, Kotagalli, Gajulpet thanks to its teaching methods matching studies in private institutions.
Even the students from far off villages like Kanjar, Kulaspur, Mullangi and Manchippa, besides Dharmaram, Dusgam, Gannaram in Ditchpalli mandal, have also enrolled. By June 15 as many as 1,010 students had joined the school. Even now hundreds of applications are pending consideration. Even those from private schools are showing interest to enroll here.
Narra Rama Rao, Headmater, told The Hans India that he would like to see the school emerge as the No1 in Telangana. “We are striving to achieve this, thanks to the cooperation of the teaching staff, villagers and officials. Parents overlook the fact that it is a government-run institution and send their wards to the school. We salute them for having faith in us. We are striving every minute to retain their faith and mould every student into a topper.”
Sarpanch Chilku Sai says he is proud of the progress achieved by the school where he had studied. “I extend support to the institution not only as sarpanch, but also as a resident and old student. It is a matter of pleasure that its student strength has crossed the 1,000 mark. Representatives of the village committee and I will ensure that the school sustains its performance, he added. Vinoda, a teacher and Bajireddy Jagan, Telangana Rashtra Samiti Rural in-charge, also expressed similar views.
