Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Wednesday addressed a meeting arranged for the TRS parliamentary party and legislature party at HICC where he announced that Telangana would have 24 districts and 74 mandals by Dasara.

KCR revealed that each district is expected to eventually have 20 mandals on an average. Talking about the increase in the number of districts, he said that the purpose of carving smaller districts was only for administrative ease and to meet the people's needs.

Pointing out the AP and West Bengal are the only states that had not increased the number of districts in the country, KCR said that the Central funds were not forthcoming to the states due to the particular reason.

Citing the benefits for new districts, the Chief Minister said that there would be central universities set up in the state and chances of a town transforming into a city are more when the urban population increases.
