CM for all-party meet on new districts
The Chief Minister said that an all-party meeting would be organised to invite suggestions from them. He gave clarity on the formation of 14 new districts and 74 new mandals at a workshop organised for ministers, MPs, MLAs, district presidents and other important functionaries.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday said wider consultations would be held with various sections of society and all political parties for the creation of new districts.
The Chief Minister said that an all-party meeting would be organised to invite suggestions from them. He gave clarity on the formation of 14 new districts and 74 new mandals at a workshop organised for ministers, MPs, MLAs, district presidents and other important functionaries.
Asserting that creation of new districts for political reasons was meaningless, he asked party men to ignore any criticism on the subject. “There is no meaning to the demands coming with political reasons. The demands of people and their convenience should be considered while taking a decision,” he said.
KCR noted that delimitation of districts was done in all the states in the country except for Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. As a result of this, the state was not getting enough funds from Centre.
It is essential to have new districts to get Navodaya and Kendriya Vidyalayas. The newly formed state should develop on expected lines and there should be new development centers in the state,” said KCR.
Telangana area is 1.14 lakh square kilometres and average district area is 11,000 kilometres. The average population in districts in the country was 18 lakhs whereas the population in Telangana was 36 lakhs per district. With an aim to having administrative convenience, the government has started delimitation of districts, he informed. CM for all-party meet The Chief Minister said that there would be 14 new districts and 74 new mandals in the State.
Every district would have 20 mandals on an average. The mandals nearer to the district headquarters should be included in the same district.
The mandals which have more population would be converted into urban mandals, he said adding that there was no rule that a constituency should be in one district. One Assembly constituency can expand in two to three districts, he added.
The villages nearer to the mandal centres should be included in the same mandal and the new districts should form and function by Dasara festival.
Chief Minister said that the government would soon call an all-party meeting and take their opinions on delimitation of the districts.
TRS leaders, including ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs formed groups and discussed about the new districts and mandals proposals. They gave their objections and suggestions to the party’s secretary general K Keshav Rao.
Party leaders said that almost all the district leaders gave their consent for the plans prepared by the officials. Leaders suggested the new district in Warangal to be named after Prof. Jayashankar and Komaram Bheem for the proposed Mancherial district.
The Medak district leaders have given their consent for the proposals of the officials. There was 90 per cent consensus among the leaders on the districts.
Some leaders suggested small changes, which would be made in the form of a report and would be submitted to the chief minister.Keshav Rao said that the CM would take a decision on new district after taking suggestions from all political parties.
