Hyderabad: Congress senior leader and Jagtial MLA T Jeevan Reddy demanded that the State government acquire the land for the proposed irrigation projects by providing compensation to the land losers as per the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act-2013.

Jeevan Reddy addressed a letter to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in this regard here on Wednesday. In his letter, he alleged that it was unfortunate that Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao was creating panic among farmers by spreading misinformation that GO No 123 was better than the Land Acquisition Act 2013 in providing compensation for the affected farmers.

Reminding that the earlier UPA government at the Centre prepared the Land Acquisition Act 2013 in place of Land Acquisition Act 1894, he said the same was being implemented with the consent of State governments since 2014. According to Land Acquisition Act 2013, the government has to give compensation to the farmers 1.5 percent more than the market value of the land.

The government should pay Rs 18 lakh to the farmers losing land under the Mallannasagar project, Jeevan Reddy demanded. He said the then Congress government prepared Land Acquisition Act-2013 to see that farmers were affected by land acquisition.

Referring to the ongoing agitation for the bifurcation of the High Court, Congress senior MLA opined that it was not correct on the part of the High Court to suspend the Judges participating in protest programmes.

Asking K Chandrashekar Rao why he was not talking to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on High Court division, he demanded that the Central government stop the division of judges till the division of High Court. He asked the Chief Minister to talk to the Centre and Naidu keeping inhibitions aside instead of playing with the sentiments of people to solve the High Court division issue

It was not correct on the part of the Chief Ministers of the two Telugu States to behave in a manner to provoke the sentiments of the people.
