Siddipet: Students attending classes in government schools by sitting on the floor is a thing of the past. As a measure to develop basic infrastructure in government schools, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao launched the My Class Desk programme in his Siddipet Assembly constituency.

As part of the programme, dual desks are being supplied to government schools to make the classrooms smart and ensure the comfort of students. A private organisation came forward to collaborate with the State Government in supplying dual desks to schools. As part of the new initiative, 1,300 dual desks were supplied to 98 government schools in Siddipet, 704 desks to 52 schools in Nanganur and 959 desks to 65 schools in Chinna Kodur mandals of the Assembly constituency.

The total seating capacity of the dual desks is 10,000. Focus was laid on provision of dual desks to schools located in remote villages and tribal areas. Special committees were constituted with parents and teachers to oversee the effective implementation of the My Class Desk programme. Buoyed by the success of the programme in Siddipet, it was extended to Gajwel Assembly constituency of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Supply of dual desks to the government schools in Gajwel has begun.

The programme is likely to be extended to all Assembly constituencies in the district in a phased manner. Besides developing basic infrastructure in government schools, the TRS regime also launched a campaign to increase the student strength in the educational institutions. Awareness is being created among parents as part of the campaign about the benefits of admitting their children in government schools which are competing with private educational institutions in all aspects now. The campaign aimed at achieving total literacy has started yielding positive results.
