Hyderabad: The animation and gaming industry is opening up a world of opportunities and Hyderabad is getting ready to capture the fast growing industry with the Telangana government upping the ante by providing an ecosystem.

Apart from planning a gaming park in 20 acres land, taking up capacity-building initiatives - the government is inviting big companies in the sector from the USA and other countries to tie up with companies in Hyderabad, said Jayesh Ranjan, IT secretary participating in a debate on the future of animation and gaming industry which was aired on HMTV on Saturday.

IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan participating in a debate on HMTV on the future of animation and gaming industry, says the government is planning a gaming park in 20 acres land, taking up capacity-building initiatives

While animation and gaming companies are strong in Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Trivandrum, no region can claim to be a leader and Hyderabad wants to fill this space, opined Jayesh Ranjan. Prof K Nageshwar, Editor-in-Chief, HMTV and The Hans India said, “From a pure IT/ITeS outsourcing hub,

Hyderabad is waking up to new realities as convergence is taking place in IT as it is opening up integration with health, art and other fields. Hyderabad stands to gain with the early bird advantage as the government is keen on this sector.”

The gaming industry is pegged at 24,000 crore but in India parents are still apprehensive in sending their children to pursue courses in Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA). Dispelling the myth that BFA course has less scope, Dr P Padmavathi said, “The scope is unimaginable, so much so there are no enough skilled personnel in India.”

Echoing a similar sentiment, K Basi Reddy, founder-president of Animation, VFX, Comic & Gaming Industry (AVCGI) said, “A company in Mumbai needed 1300 people but were able to get just half of them. The gaming industry can throw open huge opportunities but the mindset of parents towards animation, gaming and arts, in general, should change.”

Hyderabad is poised to grab a pie of the emerging gaming sector but for that an ecosystem needs to be created coupled by spreading awareness on the scope of the sector, opined experts. Jayesh Ranjan said that the government is in talks with major universities in the world to set up shop in Hyderabad.

With Hyderabad having three advantages in terms of Language, knowing English culture and time-zone advantage the government can gain immensely and become a leader of the pack, said Prof Nageshwar. What the T-hub has done to startups, the government looks to replicate the success with the game park in the near future.
