Warangal: The officials have expedited the works related to Mission Bhagiratha in the district in an attempt to supply drinking water to each household in select villages in Jangaon assembly segment by July 15.

Initially it was planned to finish the works by April 30, after the Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari and Panchayat Raj Minister K Taraka Rama Rao formally launched the programme at Singarajupalli village of Atmakur mandal in the district on last October. But it was reported that lack of coordination between revenue, rural water supply (RWS) department officials and contractors has caused the delay.
Negligence by the contracting agency in executing the work has also allegedly hit the progress of works.

According to official sources, 39 habitations in Jangaon Assembly segment have selected for the first phase of the Mission Bhagiratha, the works have been completed in 33 habitations till the date.

The State government has planned to supply the water from Yellampally project on river Godavari to as many as 704 habitations in Jangaon assembly segment, besides some parts of Station Ghanpur and Palakurthy assembly constituencies in the district. The water from Yellampally would be diverted at Kondapaka, tapping point to supply to the selected constituencies for which a high level overhead balancing reservoir was built at Komuravelli. Jangaon municipality would also get water along with the above places.

In the first phase the villages in five mandals in Jangaon constituency, in second phase three mandals in Station Ghanpur and in third phase three mandals in Palakurthy constituency would be covered under the programme. Yellampally project has started receiving good inflows due to rains in the upper reaches. In view of this, the district administration has decided to finish all the works related to Mission Bhagiratha by July 15.

District Collector Vakati Karuna informed that she directed the officials of the RWS, Jangaon revenue divisional officer and contracting agencies to make efforts to finish the works by the stipulated time at any cost. It might be noted that Warangal district has been divided into five segments for implementation of the programme. Plans have been prepared to provide drinking water in 3405 villages by the year 2017 by spending about Rs 4433 crores.

It is expected that the works in other places of the district would also pick up momentum as the Centre granted Rs 21,000 crore to Mission Bhagiratha recently. In view of the importance of the programme, the Centre was extending its support, said senior BJP leader T Rajeshwar Rao.
