Nizamabad: The government hospital in the town, always teeming with patients and doctors has become a dumping yard for garbage with the officials concerned remaining indifferent in cleaning up the mess. It is one of the largest hospitals in the Telangana State where patients come from several other districts

Speaking to The Hans India on Saturday, several patients expressed dismay over the callous attitude of the hospital management and officials of the municipal department in maintaining cleanliness at the hospital. They lamented that it would lead to the outbreak of new diseases.

The State Health Minister Lakshma Reddy will pay a visit to the town on Sunday to participate in the inaugural functions of some departments at the hospital which is affiliated to the medical college in the town. He will inaugurate the NIC room, meant for the newly born infants at the maternity ward and also a cancer diagnosing centre.

In view of the Health Minister’s visit along with the higher officials, cleaning up operation was taken up on a war footing with the sanitary staff working hard round the clock to clean up the garbage and filth, lying in the premises. All the seven floors of the hospital are being cleaned up.

Patients who come to the in-patient and out-patient wards for a check-up said that the hospital staff swings into actions only if a Minister or a higher official visits it. Otherwise, they are lax in their duties.

However, when contacted, the employees of the sanitary department had a different story to tell. They alleged that they were ordered to take up the cleaning operation at a very short notice and alleged that they were treated worse than bonded labourers.

They said that they were ready to discharge their duties with commitment but lamented that they have not been paid their salaries for the last two months and they were facing immense hardships. They demanded justice from the top officials of the Health Department.
