Warangal: A senior activist of CPI-Maoist, G Srinivas alias Praveen, has surrendered before the rural superintendent of police, Ambar Kishor Jha here on Saturday.

The 39-year-old Srinivas has been serving as the area committee member of the Maoist party. He hails from Md Ghouspalli of Mulug mandal in Warangal district and has been carrying cash reward of Rs 4 lakhs on his head.

In 1998 he came in contact with a central committee organiser Srinath, who was slain in 1999. He used to assist Maoists in distributing pamphlets and by providing shelter.

He joined the party in 2012 following a call by another slain Maoist Marri Ravi alias Sudhakar. Srinivas worked as member of KKW, Kothaguda and Narsampet area committees.

He worked with top Maoists politburo member Katakam Sudarshan alias Anand and central committee member Pullur Prasad Rao alias Chandranna in bringing out Maoists magazines Kranti, Praja Vimukti and others, besides organising training classes.

The Maoist claimed that he decided to surrender due to ill health and was attracted to the rehabilitation package offered by the Telangana government. Speaking on the occasion the SP, Jha said the reward amount he was carrying would be given to him.

The cases he was facing would also be withdrawn, besides offering assistance to live a normal life. “I appeal to all Maoists to give up arms, surrender and join the mainstream life. The government would stand by them,” the SP added.
