Mangapet (Warangal): The River Godavari is in spate as it is receiving huge inflows due to incessant rains in the upper reaches in neighbouring Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh states as well as in Warangal district for the past couple of days.

According to official sources, the water level of the river at Mangapet Pushkar ghat has reached 8.9 feet and first warning has been issued. Similarly the water level at Ramannagudem Pushkar ghat is 8.6 feet and at Eturunagaram it is 8.4 feet.

Meanwhile, the residents of Mangapet are alarmed due to the flooding river waters, a fissure was developed on the embankment adjoining the Pushkar ghat that was built during Godavari Pushkaralu in July 2015.

The flood water from the village has caused the crevice on the bund following heavy rains on July 1. Now with Godavari level increasing, the water is inversely flowing into it and might pose danger to the village if it is further damaged, worried local MPTC Ch Suresh.

Before something goes wrong the officials should fill up the fissure on the Pushkar ghat embankment and also execute revetment works on Karakatta (river bund) from Gamponigudem to Mangapet, he demanded.

Meanwhile, all the rivulets like Dayyalavagu, Jampannavagu, Jeedivagu and others in agency villages have been overflowing due to the rains. The water level at Laknavaram reached 27 feet while at Ramappa Lake it reached 11 feet and at Phakal 10 feet.

Bhupalalli received highest rainfall of 46.8 mm while Parkal, Mogullapalle, Chityal, Mulug, Ghanpur, Tadvai recorded over 30 mm rainfall while the average rainfall across the district was 13.5 mm. 13 mandals received more than 20 mm rain.

The district headquarters witnessed a drizzle for the past couple of days.
