Hyderabad: About 2,000 students along with local leaders planted as many as 1,056 saplings on the premises of Jawaharlal Nehru Government Polytechnic College campus in Ramanthapur on Monday.

The plantation drive was organised by The Hans India and HMTV as part of Haritha Haram programme. Students and faculty members of the college participated in large numbers in the plantation drive.

Local MLA NVVS Prabhakar said the plantation drive would also be taken up in other areas of Uppal Assembly constituency. Speaking to The Hans India, students of JN Government Polytechnic College, Ramanthapur, P Sai Kiran and G Sharath, said that green cover in the State has come down drastically and the plantation drive taken up by the government would surely increase the greenery.

They further said that most of the trees planted on the campus had medicinal value. HMTV and The Hans India Executive Director K Hanumantha Rao, polytechnic college principal P Shyamsunder Reddy and several others took part in the plantation drive.
