​​Hyderabad: Taking a cue from the TSRTC, the State-owned coal miner Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is also mulling over setting up petrol bunks in its mining areas.

The necessity was such that the company walking a tightrope needs to tackle the widening gap between the production costs of the coal and its pricing in the open market.

Moving ahead with an aim of achieving 80 Million tonnes of coal production in the next three to four years, the miner which has been exploring new horizons to strengthen its financial position, has already entered power sector, besides acquiring Naini coal block in Angul district of Odisha.

It may be mentioned here that the miner’s Singareni Thermal Power Plant at Jaipur in Adilabad district is ready to commission in a few weeks.

After managing to avert a major financial crisis at the start of the millennium, the miner has never looked back, especially since the formation of Telangana State.

The man behind the success was its Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar. Besides personally monitoring the coal production on a day-to-day basis, he never flinches to give a pat on the back of an employee for job well done.

Against this backdrop, the SCCL has plans to open retail outlets of petrol bunk at least one each in its 11 mining operation areas across four districts-Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar and Adilabad districts.

It’s reported that the miner was engaged in negotiations with the petroleum companies to chalk out the modalities for running of the bunks.

It’s also learnt that the company is planning to establishing bunks in RG-1, RG-2, RG-3 in Ramagundam (Karimnagar), Bhupalapally (Warangal), Srirampur, Bellampally, Mandamarri (Adilabad), Yellandu, Manuguru and Kothagudem (Khammam).

It may be noted here that the miner has land in prime locations of these towns.

Speaking to The Hans India, SCCL General Manager (Personal) A Anand Rao said: “As of now, the management is examining the feasibility of the proposal to set up bunks. A final decision will be taken in a month.”

The running of bunks is likely to be looked after by the Singareni Collieries Co-operative Central Stores Limited (Super Bazar).

The company is likely to use the services of personnel of the Singareni super bazaars.

SCCL is also examining the option of giving Petro Cards to its employees ensuring them not to go anywhere for their needs of petroleum products.
