Mahbubnagar: The famous Raja Mahal of erstwhile Wanaparthy Samsthana kings is being spruced up to house the new district Collectorate for Wanaparthy district, which is expected to be carved out from Mahbubnagar soon.

The State government had already directed the district administration to provide a detailed report on the palace and premises, besides number of rooms, halls, etc. The officials of Revenue, Road and Buildings and Engineering Departments have recently visited and surveyed the entire palace.

They have also taken the photographs of rooms, halls and premises to prepare a detailed report as directed the government. “Not just Wanaparthy Palace, we have also surveyed various other government, private buildings and premises and are preparing a detailed report to send it to the State government.

Based on the report a final decision will be taken. However as of now we are only in the process of surveying and we have yet to prepare the report,” said Bhaskar, DRO, Mahbubnagar. However, according to sources, it is said that Wanaparthy palace is almost finalised for housing the new district headquarters, while the officials are also in the process of searching a suitable premises to house the Nagarkurnool district.

Wanaparthy is a historic town and will emerge as urban conglomerate, if the State government creates Wanaparthy as a district. However, government polytechnic college has already occupied the palace. The administration is considering shifting the college to some other place in case the government chooses the palace premises for the Collectorate.
