Hyderabad: Expressing satisfaction at 4,400 lakes overflowing in Adilabad district due to heavy rains, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Monday claimed that the massive afforestation drive will be a success with active participation by the people. Inaugurating a residential college building at Hatnur in the district he planted a sapling. Harish also emphasized the need for protecting the saplings till they become trees.

Each one should plant one sapling to increase green cover to 33 per cent to get abundant rains and fight pollution, he said. Lakes, ponds and water bodies in Adilabad district are filled to capacity as heavy rains resulted due to availability of adequate green cover.

Since his home district has only 6 per cent of green cover Medak is drawing less quantity of rains he said adding that the people should make success the green drive by protecting the saplings. As Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao believes in developing the State with human resources it was decided to give better education to children and youth. On the occasion he said that Medak district will get 11 Minority Residential schools, 3 women colleges and set up study circles for SC, ST, BC communities in every district.

In Nalgonda Energy Minister, G Jagadish Reddy participated in Haritha Haram program at Himampet in Suryapet mandal. After celebrating his birthday along with leaders and party activists the minister planted a sapling and said that the green cover will give pollution- less environment and get abundant rains.
