Nizamabad: Parents of students who are to take the NEET on July 25 are getting phone calls from an unscrupulous person named Venkat Rao of Hyderabad offering a medical seat for their wards, of course, for a price of Rs 45 lakh.

The fraudster is calling from his mobile (number 9100778495) to parents introducing himself as owner of a coaching center in Hyderabad. This has been going on in the district for about a week.

At a time when the state government set up a committee to go into the alleged EMCET paper leak, the fraudster making phone calls to parents of rich students created a sensation.

CPM District Committee Secretary Dandi Venkat’s friend got the phone call from the fraudster, but Venkat took the call and conversed with the caller.

When he was told the student’s rank was 10,000, Venkat Rao demanded Rs 45 lakh, but reduced it to Rs 42 lakh upon bargaining.

He told the CPM leader that he would be contacting him two days prior to the test and demanded a blank cheque assuring seat to the student.

Talking to The Hans India, Dandi Venkat said that he told the fraudster that he would be paying the amount in three installments of Rs 22 lakh, Rs 10 lakh and Rs 10 lakh.

When enquired whether he would have to pay any additional money, the assailant replied in the negative. However, he asked the CPM leader to make the student to be thorough with the paper that he would be giving.

When the CPM leader revealed his identity, the assailant tried to change the conversation and took a complete U-turn from his earlier stand.

Further, he cut off the call on being told that his voice was recorded. The alleged EAMCET-2 paper leak and the fraudster incident are likely to cast its shadow on the NEET. Mass copying in the examination is suspected.

In view of the increased demand for medical seats and the managements demanding Rs 1 crore under management quota, the Venkat Rao episode subjected parents to agony.

Dandi Venkat and students’ union leaders, students and parents have been demanding the police to crack the mystery to render justice to hard working students. The demand is to bring to book such brokers.
