Khammam: The Congress has no locus standi to criticise the TRS government, Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao on Thursday asserted, apparently in retort to the Opposition party’s allegations against the ruling party in regard with the irrigation projects.

It may be mentioned here that he was reacting to the criticism by the Congress leaders during the one-day protest of the Deputy Floor Leader in the Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Wednesday.

“Having siphoned off crores of rupees in the name of irrigation projects during its regime in the united Andhra Pradesh, the Congress has no moral right to criticise the TRS government,” Tummala said addressing a press conference in his residence at Gandagulapalli village under Dammapet mandal, maintaining that people are in no mood to listen to the false allegations.

Stating that tenders will be called for Sri Sitarama and Bhakta Ramadasu projects in a week, he advised the TPCC working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and other Congress leaders not to come in the way of irrigation projects, which may prove costly for the farming community.

Together, both these projects would irrigate 5 lakh acres in the district besides generating 350-MW power, he added.

Both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have no other go but to divert the Godavari waters and make use of them rather than letting lakhs of cusecs draining into Bay of Bengal, Tummala said.

“Palamuru-Rangareddy Scheme is not new, as administrative approval for it was accorded in 2013 by the united AP government.

This apart, administrative approval for providing lift from the proposed Dindi Balancing Reservoir was also accorded in 2007,” Tummala said, advising the AP government not raise hue and cry over the issue.

He found fault with the AP government for its ineptness to understand the importance of sharing Krishna waters in an amicable manner rather than fighting over the issue.

TRS district president SB Beig, Aswaraopet MLA Thati Venkateswarlu and DCCB chairman Muvva Vijay Babu were among others present.
