Bhadrachalam: Uncertainty looms large over the Ramayana Theme Park proposed by the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) of the erstwhile undivided AP in 2013 with an outlay of Rs 20 crore. Initially, it was proposed to develop the theme park in 11.72 acres land of Sri Seetha Ramachandra Swamy Vari Devasthanam with the Central aid to promote temple tourism.

The then Special Chief Secretary of Tourism Chandana Khan finalized the site for the theme park after inspecting it on February 27, 2013. After bifurcation of the state, some areas in Bhadrachalam division went to AP. The land identified for the theme park is also in the areas which come under the jurisdiction of AP now.

Hence, the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation is not able to take a final decision on the construction of theme park. Though a proposal seeking sanction of Rs 20 crore for the theme park was submitted to the Centre during the previous UPA regime, no decision has been taken yet on it by the successive NDA Government.

Despite the announcement of the then Union minister of state for tourism Renuka Chowdary that the theme park would be developed at Yetapaka, no steps were taken in this regard. Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao announced long ago that the theme park would be constructed at a cost of Rs 6 crore near Sri Rama temple in Bhadrachalam. But the proposal did not materialise.

According to official sources, the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation is in a dilemma whether to take up construction of the theme park at Bhadrachalam or Parnasala. The Tourism Department's indecision in finalisation of the site for the theme park has resulted in delay in grounding the project. The undue delay in release of Central funds for the project has proved to be another impediment to it. Devotees of Sri Rama are hopeful that the proposed theme park will be reality in near future.
