Warangal: The ‘Anthasthula Bhavi’, a well of Kakatiya times on Fort Warangal road at Shiva Nagar was destroyed by miscreants searching for hidden treasures.

The well, also called as ‘Digudu Bhavi’, was believed to be Kakatiya ruler Rani Rudrama Devi’s swimming pool and it came to light recently. The residents of the area have found a part of the flooring on the northeast corner of the first underground floor blasted using gelatin sticks.

Nonetheless, there are no traces of any treasure at the place they said. A local historian, P Arvind Arya said drilling machines were used to make holes on the edges of the part where the digging took place.

It was suspected that the treasure hunters might have done this during the night, when there was heavy rain in the city a couple of days ago. There was a hook fixed on the ceiling where digging took place and the treasure hunters could have construed it as point to lift hidden treasure, said Arvind.

Meanwhile, city Congress leader R Srihari demanded the archaeology department officials to restore the well and make arrangements to prevent damage to the structure by treasure hunters.
