Hyderabad: Confirming that the Eamcet-2 question paper was leaked, the Crime Investigation Department of Telangana on Thursday formally arrested two persons from the city as part of its probe in the question paper leak.

Investigators said that the arrested persons mediated with parents and other officials to perpetrate the paper leak.

CID additional DG N Satyanarain said that following allegations that Eamcet -2 was leaked, the DGP had ordered a detailed enquiry in to the matter on July 19.

Investigators examined media reports in which it was mentioned that the TS Eamcet-2 – 2016 (Medical) entrance question paper was leaked to certain students and an amount ranging between Rs 30 lakh to 40 lakh was collected from each student.

Reports emerged that the students were given papers to practice at unidentified locations and as a result, several average students got better ranks, the additional DG said.

“Considering the severity of the allegations, the Director General of Police had ordered an enquiry by the Crime Investigation Department. After preliminary enquiry, a case has been booked under Sections 120 (B), 420 and 406 of IPC and Section 8 of AP Public Examinations (Prevention of malpractices and unfair means) Act, 1997,” he said.

The Additional DG said, “During investigation, suspected students were called by the investigators for questioning and they were thoroughly examined. It was established that two sets of the TS Eamcet-2-2016 (Medical) were leaked before the date and time of exam.”

They identified that the question papers were leaked from a printing press at New Delhi, about four days prior to the exam. Investigations also revealed that certain students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh who had appeared in the exam were moved to five cities before the examination was held.

“Certain students were taken to at least five cities before two to three days where secret camps were set up for practicing the leaked papers. The leaked papers contained 320 questions with correct answers,” said the CID Chief.

Further, the role of some brokers and sub-brokers hailing from Hyderabad, Bangalore and some parts of AP was identified. “So far two persons, Vishnudhar alias Vishnuvardhan and Thirumal alias Thirumal Rao, both from Hyderabad have been arrested on Thursday,” the senior officer said.

The arrested brokers contacted the students and their parents on the pretext of providing question papers and took Rs 10 lakh from each student as advance. The deal was set up for about Rs 40 lakh per student. The students were taken to Mumbai and Bangalore to practice the leaked papers and were sent back to the cities where they had written the examination on July 9.

“The arrested persons had taken at least 25 students to Bangalore for practice. One Rajagopal Reddy, who runs Usha Educational Consultancy of Bangalore, had arranged a secret camp. Efforts are on to nab him and investigation is still on,” the additional DG said.
