The Nalgonda district should become a green district in next two to three years, said Power Minister G Jagadish Reddy.

Miryalaguda (Nalgonda): The Nalgonda district should become a green district in next two to three years, said Power Minister G Jagadish Reddy.

As part of Haritha Haram programme, the Minister, along with MP Gutha Sukender Reddy, MLA N Bhaskar Rao and Miryalaguda Municipal Chairperson Tirunagari Nagalakshmi, has participated in plantation drive of one lakh saplings in one day, organised by local municipal council in the town on Thursday.

A huge rally was taken out in the town to create awareness among the public on Haritha Haram.

Later addressing a public meeting at NSP Grounds, the Power Minister expressed concern that there is only 24 per cent in Telangana and 5 per cent in Nalgonda district against the 33 per cent green cover in the world.

This is in turn leading to low rainfall and drought situation. He urged the people to plant a sapling without fail to give a green environment for future generations.

Jagadish said the government will arrange taps to each household with the Mission Bhagiratha, the works of which would be completed in next three years.

MP Gutha Sukender Reddy urged the public to protect the saplings they have planted. ‘Former Central Minister Jaipal Reddy had sanctioned Rs 60 lakh funds for the construction of mini Ravindra Bharati in Nalgonda and I had given Rs one crore from MP funds.

Now another Rs one crore is needed to complete the construction,’ he added. District Collector P Satyanarayana Reddy, local officials, TRS leaders, municipal councilors and others participated in the programme.
