Khammam: Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao found fault with the Opposition parties, especially the Congress for raising hue and cry over the Mallannasagar project.

Addressing the people in Kallur mandal in the district on Saturday, he appealed to the Opposition party leaders to stop their machinations against the project.

“The Congress which spent Rs 1.50 lakh crores during its 10 years of regime in unified Andhra Pradesh failed to meet the irrigation and drinking water needs of the people in Telangana,” Tummala said, stating that it has no moral right to criticise the TRS government.

“It is totally uncalled for when the people are coming forward to give their land to the project voluntarily,” the Minister said, advising the Opposition party leaders to understand the importance of Mallannasagar which is proposed to store 50 tmc ft of water and irrigate lakhs of acres.

“Though the government assured to provide a fair compensation to the displaced, the Congress party is hell-bent on obstructing the project by misleading the people,” the R&B Minister said.

He inaugurated the restoration works of several lift irrigation schemes estimated to cost Rs 27 crore in Sathupalli constituency. SC Corporation Chairman Pidamarthi Ravi found fault with the Opposition parties for creating hurdles in for irrigation projects.

“The inordinate delay in irrigation projects will cast their shadow on farmers,” he said, urging the Opposition not to instigate the people with their Goebbels propaganda.

Khammam MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Zilla Parishad Chairperson G Kavitha and MLC Balsani Laxminarayana were also present.
