Bonalu festival was celebrated on a grand scale in the town on Sunday with thousands of people taking part.
Nizamabad: Bonalu festival was celebrated on a grand scale in the town on Sunday with thousands of people taking part.
It is celebrated in the month of Ashadha, in which the Goddess is worshipped for health, wealth and happiness. Farmers worship the Goddess for making their lands fertile.
Devotees from different parts of the town thronged the temple of Mother Goddess and serpentine queues were witnessed inside the temple.
They also come here to fulfill their vows. The Goddess was taken around in huge processions through various localities.
A lamb was also sacrificed to appease the Goddess. Later, prasadam, the food offering was distributed to the devotees.
It is also called Bonam. People believe that celebrating Bonalu during the last Sunday of Ashadha masam prevent the outbreak of diseases.
