Hyderabad: Stepping up the fight against land acquisition by the State government for Mallannasagar project, the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has decided to send a delegation of senior party leaders, led by leader of Congress Legislature Party K Jana Reddy, to the villages that are likely to be submerged under the project.

In an informal chat with the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday, the TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said based on the petition filed by party leader Damodara Raja Narasimha and Medak district Congress President Sunitha Laxma Reddy, the High Court had permitted the partymen to visit the villages that are going to be submerged. The district leaders already informed police officials in written about their visit.

Demanding the State government to make public all the DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) of all irrigation projects, Uttam said the government’s deliberate attempt to maintain secrecy with regard to project details raised many doubts.

If the projects were meant for the benefit of the public, the government should have shared all the information with the opposition and should have ensured transparency in the execution of works.

Uttam also took strong exception to the government for not conducting public hearing and for acquiring land by force. He alleged that government was least bothered about the welfare of oustees as it was not ready to pay compensation under Land Act -2013.

The TPCC chief further questioned the government’s sincerity towards protecting the rights of the farmers through the implementation of GO 123, which had been opposed by all in the State.

Uttam said Congress has been forced to move the court because of the “dictatorial rule” of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s government that did not allow them to visit the affected villages and meet the farmers. The TPCC president wondered why the government was so impatient and preventing the Opposition leaders from visiting the affected villages.
