The Lions Club International is planning to establish an Eye Hospital at Jangaon and a Dialysis Centre in Warangal city this year for the benefit of the public in the district.

​Warangal: The Lions Club International is planning to establish an Eye Hospital at Jangaon and a Dialysis Centre in Warangal city this year for the benefit of the public in the district.

Prof V Gopal Reddy, newly appointed governor of Lions Club District 320F, revealing the service activities planned in this year said the Eye Hospital will cost of Rs 50 lakh. The initiative is taken up as part of the Clubs’ centennial celebrations.

It is also planned to impart personality development training for 1,000 youth in 20 select schools in Warangal district. A short-term course with 40 lessons is designed by USA institutions will be made use for this purpose, he told The Hans India.

The course, comprising of topics on self-confidence, critical thinking, communication skills, goal setting and social service, is aimed at discouraging adolescents from aggressive behaviour. A team of 35 teachers are being trained for teaching the course.

50 select government schools will be equipped with LCD projectors, drinking water purifiers, educational charts and toilets this year. Eye and medical camps will be conducted from next month.

The SBI has come forward to supply medical equipment with which it is planned to construct hospitals, Prof Gopal Reddy informed.

There are 42 clubs in Warangal district with a membership of 1,750. Recently two new clubs - Kuravi Veerabhadra and Warangal Diamonds - are formed.

Lions Club International established in 1917 in Chicago, USA, currently has its presence in 210 countries and a membership of 1.4 million.

The Club will focus on youth, vision, hunger and environment during the centennial year and new enrolments will be made during this year, he said.

Marking the installation ceremony, 300 dual desks worth Rs 6 lakh were donated to different government schools in the district. Rs 50, 000 cash cheque given to ZPHS Tirumalayapalem towards improvement of infrastructure. Justice L Narasimha Reddy, who attended the ceremony, lauded the service motto of the Club.

During the ceremony, the Club members P Sampath Reddy and KC John Bunny have been installed as first and second vice- district governors. T Sudhakar Reddy and J Purushotham took oath as cabinet secretary and treasurer respectively.
