Hyderabad: Anuradha, the designated oracle, who performed Rangam on the concluding of the Bonalu celebrations here at Akkanna Madanna temple on Monday, said that the goddess would protect people of the country and State from terrorists.

She further said that one person from a family should offer 'saka' (toddy or liquor offered in front of the deity) in temples. The oracle said that she was satisfied with the devotion of her disciples. She asked unmarried youth to visit temples for five weeks and said there would be enough food grains in the country this year.

The month-long Aashada Jatara Bonalu festival concluded peacefully on Monday after Goddess Mahankali Ammavaru was taken out in a well-decorated elephant in a procession through the main streets of the Old City.

The procession started from Akkanna Madanna Mahankali temple near Lal Darwaza and culminated at Afzalgunj. The spectacular performances of the artistes during the procession caught everyone’s eye. The lanes in the Old City echoed with drum beats and songs of the deity. Potharajus were the special attractions during the procession.

Congress leader M Anjan Kumar Yadav and MLA T Raja Singh welcomed the procession at Charminar. Another special attraction of the procession was the replica of Yadadri and Tirumala temples.

Earlier, Government Advisor K Ramana Chary, Hyderabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy flagged off the procession. Police made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the celebrations.
