The Minister, who is known for surprise inspections, on Monday created flutter among the sand mafia when he suddenly jumped off his car and took to police vehicle to reach Moya Tummedavagu (stream) sand reach near Kothapally under Timmapur mandal, close on the Hyderabad-Karimnagar road.

After inspecting the sand reach, KTR interacted with the labourers and elicited information about the mining.

On receiving information about the Minister’s visit, the TSMDC Project Officer rushed to the spot and appraised the Minister about the mining activities.

K T Rama Rao enquired from the project officer about the number of lorries that transport the sand and the facilities available at that place. He asked how much sand was being sold and at what price.

He also examined the illegal dumping sites in Kottapalli village, set up to keep the sand and directed the officials to seize them immediately and sell them.

KTR said that the surprise inspections carried out in Karimnagar district would also be followed in other districts too. He told the reporters that sand mafia would be dealt with iron hand.

Later, KTR conducted a review meeting with the mayors, deputy mayors, commissioners of Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations.

“A plan is on the anvil to create a revolving fund with Rs 1,500 crore to assist the municipal corporations,” KTR said, pointing out a similar model being implemented in Tamil Nadu with about Rs 8,000 crore.

Assuring that best municipalities would get incentives, he advised the municipal chairmen and commissioners to visit their respective towns early in the morning to take note of the problems faced by the people.

He stressed the importance of establishing nurseries by Warangal, Karimnagar and Khammam Corporations by next year according to their need of saplings for the Haritha Haram programme.

Finance Minister E Rajender emphasised the need for coordination between various departments to achieve success in the implementation of welfare programmes.

Municipal Staff College representative Srinivasa Chary gave a power point presentation about the characteristics of municipalities and their development.

Municipal Administration Special Chief Secretary MG Gopal, Municipal Administration Commissioner Dana Kishor, Warangal Mayor N Narender, Municipal Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad and Karimnagar Mayor S Ravinder Singh were among others present.
