Dichpalli (Nizamabad): Additional Principal Secretary Shanta Kumari said that by growing palm Palmyra and palm date trees, the toddy tappers would get employment and also would be able to produce pure toddy.

On Monday, she inspected the palm palmyra saplings that were planted on the banks of lakes in Manampalli village of Dichpally mandal and Fatehpur and Tehpur villages in Armoor mandals along with the District Collector Yogitha Rana.

The Additional Principal Secretary said that the Excise department had planted palm dates and palm palmyra saplings on the lands belonging to the Toddy Tappers Association at a cost of Rs 6.70 lakh keeping in view the welfare of the toddy tappers.

It was the duty of the toddy tappers to protect the plants from withering away and ensure their growth and would take six to seven years, she added.

Shanta Kumari lauded the efforts of the Collector Rana for taking appropriate steps and successfully implementing the Haritha Haram programme in the district.

Deputy Commissioner for Prohibition David Ravikanth, DRDA project director Chandramohan Reddy, village sarpanches, ZPTC members and others were present.
