​Hyderabad: Disappointing thousands of students and their parents, the Telangana government on Tuesday announced that Eamcet -3 would be conducted between 10 am and 1 pm on September 11.

The Eamcet-2 examination, which has been marred by paper leak, has been cancelled. Urging parents and students to understand the situation and cooperate with the government in this difficult situation, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said, “We are taking this unfortunate decision to cancel Eamcet -2 as we do not have any other option.”

He directed the JNTU (Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University) authorities to make foolproof arrangements for conducting the exam in a fair manner and complete the process of counseling within the scheduled time. JNTU Registrar Prof N Yadaiah has been appointed Eamcet-3 convenor.

Meanwhile, Telangana State Council for Higher Education Chairman T Papi Reddy said that a detailed schedule on the announcement of results and counseling would be notified after the conclusion of the Eamcet committee meeting.

Earlier in the day at a review meeting on the progress in the probe into Eamcet-2 paper leak, the Chief Minister instructed Telangana State Higher Education Council, Health University and JNTU to finalize the schedule for the conduct of the exam at the earliest.

He instructed the authorities to allow candidates to Eamcet-3 on the old hall tickets (Eamcet -2) without collecting any fee. He wanted them to ensure free bus facility to aspirants on the exam day and make available online study material and question bank with answers on the JNTU website.

Officials told the CM that previous governments conducted re-examination whenever an examination paper was found to have been leaked. Previous court judgments on paper leak and conduct of the exams were also discussed at the meeting attended by Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari and Health Minister C Laxma Reddy.

The Chief Minister enquired about the status in the arrest of the accused persons and the progress in the probe. The CID officials informed that nearly 200 students and their parents consulted brokers who leaked the examination paper and sold them for huge sums.

Investigations have revealed the role of 34 brokers in the scam and identified New Delhi as the centre for the whole scam. The racket ran at the national level involved four key persons, including Mukul Jain, Mayank Sharma, Sunil Singh and Iqbal.

The CM instructed the authorities to register cases against parents who contacted brokers and take stringent action against them as per law.
