Mahbubnagar: The city of Mahbubnagar, which is expanding by the day, is naturally being bogged down by increasing traffic snarls as well. With an eye on the future, the residents of Mahbubnagar are demanding the construction of a second main road diverting the traffic from Appanapally to Bandameedipally to connect the Raichur main road near Palamuru University.
“It is true that there is growing traffic chaos being witnessed every day at all the junctions. The main problem is that the junctions are narrow and the footpaths of the main roads have also been encroached upon by the business establishments. This is causing a lot of inconvenience to the commuters. In view of this, a proposal has been sent to the government for an outer by-pass road,” informed Bhukya Devsingh, Municipal Commissioner, Mahbubnagar.
Thanks to the increasing number of vehicles on the roads, the lone main road which was converted into National Highway 167 recently is facing traffic problems at every junction. To merely traverse the 3 kilometer-stretch from ‘Two-town police station’ near Mettugadda to the ‘One-town police station’ at Bhootpur X roads, it takes anywhere between 30-45 minutes during rush hours, the reason being that all the internal roads connecting different colonies and roads connecting to major towns like Bhootpur, Jadcherla, Raichur, Tandoor, and Navabpet converge on the main road.
This leads to clogging of vehicles on the main road which is causing inconvenience to the commuters. “Not just traffic jams, because of narrow curved roads, there are lot of accidents happening in the district. The auto-rickshaw walas are the ones who drive very rashly and least heed the traffic rules,” complained Gopal, a shop owner at Telangana Chowk.
Therefore, the people of the district are demanding the construction of a second main road to by-pass the heavy trucks, buses and other vehicles beyond the main city, so that the central main road will be free from
unwanted traffic.
“In the absence of a second main road, the vehicular traffic particularly the heavy lorries and buses going from Jadcherla and Bhootpur towards Raichur, is causing heavy vehicular rush and traffic jams in the main city. The planning authorities of the district have prepared and cleared a master plan for a by-pass road. The file has been sent to the CMO for final clearance. Once this is cleared, the district headquarters will soon get a by-pass road,” informed Srinivas Goud, MLA of Mahbubnagar.
“At present we are diverting heavy loaded Lorries from Jadcherla via Bhootpur to the connecting Raichur road. This will decongest the traffic in the main Mahbubnagar city during busy hours from 9 am in the morning to 9 pm in the evening,” informed a police constable controlling traffic at Jadcherla X roads.
