Adilabad/Nizamabad: With rains lashing the State, medium irrigation projects in the district like Yellampalli, Gaddenna, Kadem, Satnala and Komuram Bheem projects have received heavy inflows, forcing the officials to discharge water to downstream.
The water level in Yellampalli project reached 145.7ft against the full reservoir level of 148ft. While the inflows into the project are put at 15,000 cusecs, the outflow is 19,700 cusecs. The upper reaches of the project Kadem, Khanapur and Jinnaram received heavy rains.
Meanwhile, water level in Yellampalli reached above full reservoir level forcing the officials to lift two gates to discharge water.
The inflows into Gaddenna project are measured as 4,000 cusecs, while the outflow is put at 4,300 cusecs. The officials lifted one gate of the project to discharge water from it.
In Kadem project, the water level is measured at 697ft against the full reservoir level of 700 feet. The officials lifted four gates to discharge the flood water.
Water level in Satnala measured at 283 ft against the full reservoir level of 286ft. In Komuram Bheem project, the water level measured at 793ft against the full reservoir level of 797 ft.
Similarly because of heavy inflows, flood water is overflowing into Mattadi Vagu, Swarna Vagu, Vatti Vagu and Neelvai Vagu. The officials have dischared water from project canals for agriculture purposes.
Meanwhile, agricultural operations are in full swing as farmers are gearing themselves for transplantation of paddy in the ayacut lands.
In Nizamabad district, the Pochampadu project, which is described as boon to Telangana, received heavy inflows beyond all expectations.
However, the condition of Nizam Sagar project, which is described as heart of Telangana, is deplorable with practically no inflows into it.
The farmers who have been starved of rain for the past three years have pinned hopes on harvesting a bountiful crop this year because of widespread rains all over the State.
Small ponds and tanks are filled to the brim, but there is no improvement in Nizam Sagar project. In fact, the water level in Nizam Sagar is two feet below the dead storage level.
Last year, the water level in the project was 1,372 ft against the full reservoir level of 1,405 feet. The Singuru project in the upper reaches of Nizam Sagar received no inflows starving the Nizam Sagar project of water.
Usually under the project, farmers grow paddy at least in one lakh acres. As there are no inflows into the project, the farmers are in a dilemma whether to grow paddy or not.
If the project fails to receive inflows in 15 days, growing paddy in project ayacut lands will be doubtful.
