​Kothagudem (Khammam): Former minister Koneru Nageswara Rao, 80, died here on Friday after prolonged illness. Rao, said to be close associate of Telugu Desam Party founder NT Rama Rao, has been with the party since its inception. He represented Kothagudem Assembly constituency twice and also worked as minor irrigation minister in NTR Cabinet.

Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao, who paid floral tribute to the mortal remains of the leader, said that Khammam district has lost a great politico. Recalling his association with departed leader, he described him as a stalwart who served the State both as a legislator and a minister.

The Government of Telangana has decided to conduct the last rites of Koneru Nageswara Rao officially following Tummala’s plea to the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, according to official sources.

Kothagudem MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao, Khammam MLA Puvvada Ajay Kumar, MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy and Zilla Parishad chairperson G Kavitha were among others who condoled his death. Koneru Nageswara Rao’s son Satyanarayana is TDP’s Kothagudem constituency in-charge.
