Khammam: Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari said the government is committed to strengthen the education system in the State.

In a surprise inspection of Zilla Parishad School in Kusumanchi mandal on Monday, the Minister expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of quite a few teachers, who were on leave.

Finding that students were squatting on the floor, he told the District Education Officer, N Rajesh, to procure 100 benches for the school immediately.

He also directed him to submit a report giving details of the requirement of benches in the district schools. He directed the Revenue Divisional Officer, Vinay Krishna Reddy, to take measures to set up a purified drinking water plant in the school with immediate effect.

“In a bid to give better education to poor and downtrodden, the government introduced English medium in State-run schools,” the Minister said, seeking the support of teachers to improve the standards of education.

He accused the previous governments of ignoring the education system in the State. Efforts are on to recruit 9,000 Vidya Volunteers, he said. While interacting with the students, he made them to read the text books.
