Hyderabad: With a target to collect Rs 300 crore within two months, officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) have been given the nod to go after defaulters in both commercial and industrial water sectors.

The Water Board is yet to receive Rs 132.33 crore from 40,103 commercial and Rs 164.74 crore from 2,049 industrial Consumer Account Numbers (CANs).

In order to speed up revenue collections, HMWS&SB has divided the city into 120 sections. It is planning to depute a team of two members, including a worker to collect arrears and a fitter to disconnect the connection. A vehicle would be provided for each of the teams.

The Water Board has decided to collect pending dues from commercial and industrial complexes which include prominent government and corporate hospitals, Central government departments, resorts and other defaulters.

Officials said they would issue “red notices” to defaulters asking them clear their arrears within 15 days with a warning that the tap connection would be disconnected. They also clarified that the Water Board would collect one-third amount of the total areas from each defaulter.

Speaking to The Hans India, a Water Board official said the monthly expenditure of HMWS&SB is around Rs 122.50 crore, whereas the income was Rs 106.25 crore. Due to the revenue deficit, the Water Board has been forced to depend on the State government for funds to take up several development activities.

In order to change the scenario and enhance the revenue collections, the Water Board MD has swung into action to make HMWS&SB self-sufficient by the next financial year.
