Nalgonda: Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Ministers Harish Rao and Jagadish Reddy have taken initiative for the water release from Nagarjuna Sagar to the district for Krishna Pushkaralu, slated to commence at 5.58 am on August 12, said District Collector P Satyanarayana Reddy.

Speaking to the media here on Wednesday, the Collector said water is flowing at 16 ghats and the remaining ghats will get water by August 12 as 12,000 cusecs of water was released from Nagarjuna Sagar. He denied the rumours of non-availability of water in the ghats.

There is no water at the five ghats at Kacharajupally, Pottichelma, Peddamunja, Utlapahad and Sadhvidevulapally, located at the back waters of Nagarjuna Sagar Project (NSP).

After observing the water in NSP is not sufficient to supply water to the ghats, the government decided to release 50,000 cusecs of water to NSP fron Srisailam project. Of this, 4,000 to 6,000 cusecs of water would be released from NSP to ensure water flow at the ghats during Pushkar days, he added.

The Pushkar ghats at Irthigudem, Mudimanikyam and Adavi Devulapalli are located amidst beautiful nature, but there is no water. The Collector exuded confidence that water would reach these ghats in the next two or three days.

All facilities like drinking water, changing rooms and lighting were made at all ghats and trail run was also completed. Tower lights were also setup at the parking places. Medical camps also would be ready, he added.

Stating that life jackets are kept ready and expert swimmers would be pressed into service at the ghats from Thursday afternoon, he informed that one battalion of National Disaster Response Force comprised of 42 personnel was arrived in the district and they would be deployed at Pushkar ghats at Nagarjuna Sagar, Mattapally and Wadapally in the district.

In addition to 15,000 staff, 2,000 NSS, NCC and Red Cross volunteers will also extend services at the ghats, he said. The District Collector is expecting heavy rush during holidays between August 12 and 15.

Meanwhile, the district police released a list of Dos and Don’ts to the Pushkar devotees. The pilgrims were advised to use public transport and RTC buses only as they are safe and take people very near to the pushkar ghats.

They are suggested to take extra precautionary measures in case of travelling with senior citizens and children.

The devotees told to inform the police, if they found anyone suspicious. The most important is to take a dip at notified ghats only.
