Thousands of people took holy dip in River Krishna at Pushkhar ghats in Nalgonda district as Krishna Pushkaralu began on Friday.

The priests performed special rituals at 5.58 am at the main ghats at Mattapally, Wadapally and Nagarjuna Sagar. Harathi was also offered to Krishna River.

Shivalayam pushkar ghat at Nagarjuna Sagar witnessed heavy rush of devotees.

Power Minister G Jagadish Reddy, along with family members, took holy dip in River Krishna at Prahlada ghat at Mattapally and performed special pooja at Mattapally Sri Lakshmi Narsimha Swamy temple.

District Collector P Satyanarayana Reddy and Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham, along with their family members, take the holy dip at Prahlada ghat.

Following police restrictions at Prahlada ghat due to VIPs visit, thousands of devotees turned to Balaji ghat. For the convenience of aged and handicapped persons, shower bath facility was provided at pushkar ghats at Mattapally.

The police made tight security arrangements at pushkar ghats in Mattapally and closely watched through binoculars from towers. The dog and bombs squads checked the pushkar ghats and Sri Lakshmi Narsimha Swamy temple at Mattapally.

The Director General of the Police, Anurag Sharma inspected security arrangements in Nagarjuna Sagar personally. The Telangana Jagruthi, in association with Amma Hospital, has setup a health camp at Wadapally pushkar ghat for the benefit of devotees.

Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukender Reddy and Miryalaguda MLA N Bhaskar Rao took the holy dip at Wadapally and performed pooja at Sri Agastheswara Swamy temple.

The personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were also deployed at Wadapally pushkhar ghat. In addition to the expert swimmers, rescue boats of fire department were also kept ready.

The people, who visited the six pushkar ghats at Kacharajupally, Pottichelma, Peddamunja, Utlapahad, Adavidevulapally and Darveshipuram for a holy drip, were disappointed as there was no water in the ghats.
