Khammam: The plight of parents having children with physical or mental illness is unimaginable. It will be more depressing if they are financially poor. One such case is of Nageswara Rao of Venkatapuram village in Mudigonda mandal of Khammam district. His wife Ganta Rani gave birth to a girl child, Akshaya in 2005. When the girl didn’t show any signs of growth even after completing one year, the concerned parents showed her to a pediatrician.

They were worried when the doctor informed them that the child was suffering from congenital brain disorder. Not caring for huge expenses, the couple consulted several specialists in Khammam, Vijayawada and Hyderabad for treatment. All their efforts went vain. There is no improvement in her condition.

The now 11-year-old girl looks like two-year-old as her growth was retarded due the congenital brain disorder. She cannot do anything on her own and bed-ridden.

Nageswara Rao is a private employee with a meagre salary. Rani works as a daily labourer to supplement the family income.
Narrating the growth retardation of her daughter to The Hans India, Nageswara Rao said he is spending Rs 25,000 for every three months towards his daughter’s medical expenses. Though bearing her medical expenses is beyond his means, he is forced to mobilise funds somehow to ensure her survival.

The specialists after examining Akshaya told the father that she needs a brain surgery, which costs Rs 6 lakh. ‘Neither I can bear the operation cost nor mobilise the required funds for the surgery.

I will be grateful to philanthropists, NGOs or the government if they come to the rescue of my little girl. I hope some philanthropist or NGO, moved by my daughter’s pitiable condition, will give a new lease of life to her.’’

The mother, Rani said they are anxiously waiting for the aid to get the brain disorder of Akshaya cured. Philanthropists or NGOs, who want to extend financial aid to the hapless father, can contact Nageswara Rao on his mobile no: 96030 45263 to get more details.
