Nizamabad: District Collector Yogitha Rana urged the officials to take steps and prevent contagious diseases from spreading in the district.

Addressing a review meeting with the MPDOs, panchayat raj officials, RWS officials, health supervisors and paramedical staff through a video conference here on Friday, she said that the officials of various departments should coordinate with each other and organise medical camps to educate the villagers.

She said that they should be taught to take preventive measures. They should hold such camps at the primary health centres and sub-centres in the evening for one week to alert the people in the rural areas, she added.

The District Collector lamented that one person died due to diarrhoea and the condition of three others were said to be critical. They were taken ill due to the supply of contaminated water, she added.

She directed the officials to take steps and get the water chlorinated and spray bleaching powder in the surroundings.

Every Friday should be declared as a dry day to get the water cleaned, she said and for this purpose, funds from the gram panchayats and MGNREGS funds could be used.

The District Collector announced that the Durki panchayat secretary was placed under suspension and warned that stringent action would be taken against the staff if they were found to be negligent.

She directed the officials to organise health camps in areas affected with diarrhoea and lauded the efforts of the officials of primary health centres in tackling dirroeha.

A district level health team and a flying squad should be kept ready to face any eventuality, she added. She said that people should be made aware of personal hygiene.
