Hyderabad: The police got a shot in the arm with Nayeem’s brother Fayeem and his wife Shaheena surrendering before the Rajendranagar court on Friday. The duo was also named as accused by the police in several cases of extortion.

The court remanded the duo in judicial custody for 14 days. They were later shifted to Chanchalguda Central Prison. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) may file a petition in the court for police custody for interrogation.

Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Special Operations Team police on Friday arrested two more associates of deceased gangster Nayeemuddin, who was killed in an exchange of fire with police on August 8 at Shadnagar.

On credible information, the SOT sleuths of East Cyberabad commissionerate apprehended the close aides of the deceased gangster, who were involved in land grabbing and extortion. Mohammed Nawab (42) of Malkajgiri and Modi Ramesh (35) of Yousufguda met Nayeem long ago through one Shakeel of Bhongir, according to police. “The duo along with one Ramesh of Maheswaram hatched a plan to threaten people by using Nayeem’s name and earn money.

They targeted disputed lands located in Maheswaram mandal. Once Ramesh learnt about 30-acre land belonging to an RMP Yadaiah in Kothapet of Mahabubnagar district, which was in dispute of ownership with one Jaya Reddy of Jubilee Hills, Nawab extorted Rs 1.4 crore from Reddy on various occasions,” said SOT additional DCP E Ramchandra Reddy. Using Nayeem’s name, Nawab, Shakeel and Ramesh extorted money from several persons.
