Khammam: Denouncing the attacks against the Podu cultivators in the region, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has resolved to lay siege to the residences of TRS legislators.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, CPI district council secretary Bagam Hemanth Rao expressed concern over the fate of Adivasis in the backdrop of forest department’s attacks against standing crops on Podu land in the district.

Stating that standing crops on at least 15,000 acres have already been damaged, he highlighted the need for exerting pressure on ruling party leaders.

The people in rural areas are reeling under viral fevers due to lack of healthcare infrastructure and medicines,” Rao said, demanding the government declaring health emergency in the district.

Talking on new districts issue, he said that although the CPI welcomes the government’s move, the party will oppose the merger of any part of the existing district with other district.

Meanwhile, the CPI has decided to organise demonstrations in all the revenue divisions of the district on August 17 in protest against the BJP-led NDA government’s anti-people policies.

This apart, the party has plans to observe weeklong Telangana Sayudha Poratam anniversary from September 11.District secretariat member Potu Prasad, senior leaders Sk Janimiya and Md Salam were among others present.
