Warangal: The leaders of different people’s organisations have called upon the dalits to make collective efforts to counter the attacks against them by Hindutva forces.Kula Vivaksha Porata Samithi (KVPS) organised a round-table meeting on ‘Attacks on dalits-religious fundamentalism’ in Hanamkonda on Sunday. Addressing the gathering, the KVPS State vice-president G Nagaiah stressed on the need to prevent attacks on dalits.

Ever since the NDA government led by Narendra Modi came to power, nearly 3,500 dalits were attacked and 20 dalits were killed across the country by feudal minded activists of BJP and its affiliated organisations, he complained.

Attacks were being made on food habits of 20 crore dalits and 15 crore Muslims, efforts were on to abolish reservations in jobs and education. The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, who promised three acre land to landless dalits, was not interested to implement it fully, he alleged.

Dalit Ratna Bommalla Kattaiah speaking on the occasion lamented that the BJP government at the Centre was trying to instigate religious sentiments. In the name of cow slaughter prevention, dalits in Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh were being attacked, he alleged. Those attacking dalits should be punished severely, Kattaiah demanded.

The Warangal District Bar Association president B Jayakar, TMRPS president B Bikshapathi, rights activists E Naraiah, Routu Ramesh, N Ratnamala, A Kumar, B Chakrapani, Ch Rajender and others were present.
