Nizamabad: Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives Pocharam Srinivas Reddy hoisted the national flag and took the guard of honour at the police parade grounds in the town on the occasion of 70th Independence Day.

Addressing the gathering, he said that the State government was striving sincerely with commitment to develop the newly formed Telangana State which was achieved after a long struggle.

Although there was deficit rainfall in the district during the last two years, the government provided employment to workers and it yielded good results, he added.

The Agriculture Minister said that water was released from the Sriram Sagar Project into various canals through lift irrigations schemes.
He lamented that the Nisamsagar dam became completely dry and said that in the next five years, water would be released into ayacut region of this dam through the Mallannasagar dam with the help of the Pranahita-Godavari lift irrigation method so that two crops could be irrigated.

He said that a new ayacut region would be developed in Kamareddy, Yellareddy, Jukkal, Banswada, Armoor, Nizamabad (Rural) and Balkonda constituencies. For the modernisation of lift irrigation schemes and launching new schemes, Rs 60 crore were sanctioned, he added.

Minister Pocharam said that power connections would be given to 23,000 new agricultural services in the district. Steps would be taken to provide uninterrupted power supply by interconnecting the Southern and Northern Power grids and setting up new electricity lines, he added.

An electricity sub-station with 765/400 KW would be constructed at Suddapalli village of Dichpalli mandal in the district at an estimated cost of Rs 2080 crore, he added.

The Agriculture Minister said that during this kharif season, 90,000 quintals of soya beans would be supplied to the farmers at a subsidy of Rs 19 crore.

Crop loans worth Rs 1100 crore have already been distributed to farmers, he added. He said that Rs 383 crore were credited into the accounts of 3.80 lakh farmers under three phases, he added. He said that 32 agricultural market godowns would be constructed with funds worth Rs 100 crore released by NABARD.

Later, the Minister also distributed commendation certificates to several district level officers for their meritorious services. Similarly, he also handed over a memento and commendation certificate given by the Nizamabad municipal corporation to Mayor Akula Sujata under the Haritha Haram programme.

He also lauded the services of District Collector Yogitha Rana, who received the Best Collector Award from the Chief Minister for successfully implementing Haritha Haram programme in the district.

Joint Collector A Ravinder Reddy, Superintendent of Police Vishwa Prasad, Rajya Sabha Member D Srinivas and others were present.
