Hyderabad: Union Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said that the attacks on Dalits even after 69 years of Independence, was a matter of shame on the part of the civilised society.

  • Says we must overcome divisions related to minorities, men, women, caste, religion and differentiation
  • Says those who ruled the country until now are politicising the attacks on Dalits

The Union Minister was speaking at an event to mark the 70th Independence Day celebrations at the State’s BJP office here on Monday. The Minister said, “The attacks on Dalits are a challenge to all of us. We must fight against this. By politicising the issue of attacks on Dalits we are doing injustice to them. This approach must change. We must get rid of the divisions related to Minorities, men, women, caste, religion and differentiation.

We should inculcate the feeling that we all are Indians. Those who ruled the country until now are politicising the attacks on Dalits. Treating Dalits as vote bank has resulted in this sorry state of affairs.” Alleging that some persons were inciting people in the name of caste, religion and region, Venkaiah Naidu said, “We must not entertain their pranks.” The Minister asserted that all divisive forces must be dealt with sternly.

“Extremism is an enemy of the mankind as a whole. It has no religion. Some are attempting to give it the colour of religion. But we must rebuff this,” Venkaiah Naidu said. The Minister made it clear that Kashmir was an inherent and indivisible part of India and there cannot be any talks on it. In any democratic State, there is no place for violence, he emphasised.

Recalling the supreme sacrifices of freedom fighters, the Minister asked the people to take part in the process of turning the Swarajya (Independence) into the Su-rajya (Good State). “To achieve this, every Indian must perform his or her duties properly. The standards of life must be enhanced. The fruits of development must reach each and every citizen,” he said.

He said that the present objectives before the nation were development and good governance. “That’s why Prime Minister Modiji gave the slogan sab ka saath sab ka vikas,” the Minister mentioned.
