Khammam: Good days are ahead for those living in slums, the Minister for Roads and Buildings, Tummala Nageswara Rao said, while laying foundation stone for 400 double bedroom houses at an estimated cost of Rs 24.20 crore in YSR Nagar under Raghunathapalem mandal near Khammam on Monday.

“The government has sanctioned 2,000 houses for Khammam Assembly constituency and with more to be allotted in the near future, the time is not far away for the poor to fulfill their dream of owning house,” the Minister said, heaping praise on the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, for initiating the scheme despite financial constraints.

Earlier taking part in the Independence Day celebration at the Police Grounds, the Minister reeled out the developmental programmes being taken up in Khammam district.

“A 41-kilometer ring road will soon come up in view of the growing urbanisation,” Tummala said, stating that survey of the ring road is in progress. The government has earmarked Rs 209 crore for the alignment and land acquisition, he added.

Referring to the Mission Kakatiya works, he said the government has taken up restoration of 833 tanks under Phase-I and 921 tanks under Phase-II with an outlay of Rs 564.10 crore. So far restoration of 1,041 tanks was completed.

The upcoming irrigation projects – Bhakta Ramadasu and Sri Sitarama – will turn Khammam district into agricultural hubs, the Minister said.
