Choutuppal (Nalgonda): Two weavers of Puttapaka in Sansthan Narayanapuram mandal of the district will be honoured with national award at a programme to be held at Benares Hindu University in Varanasi on August 17.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will honor the weavers Pillalamarri Radhakrishna Murthy and Kolanu Buchhchi Ramulu with the prestigious award in connection with the World Handloom Day.

They were chosen for the award for creating a double Ikkat pattern sari toiling hard for about a year using natural dyes and eye-catching designs. Their work reflected Indian culture with the design containing symbols of zodiac signs and vastu symbols.

The design featured animals like elephant, lion, cow, fish, Purnakumbham along with sun and moon. Speaking to The Hans India, they said the award came their way because of the encouragement and support they received from Padmasri awardee weaver of the village Gajam Anjaiah.
