Adilabad: Makra (K) village in Ichoda mandal which is a model in the district in several aspects of rural growth has added yet another feather in its cap. It has achieved the distinction of becoming the fourth village in Telangana with 100 per cent digital literacy. There are about 160 families in the village.

One from each family underwent computer training for one month at the Common Service Centre (CSC) set up in the mandal headquarters as part of the National Digital Literacy Mission (NDLM) of the Central government. All the candidates came out with flying colours in an online test conducted after the end of the training programme and received certificates.

Ichoda CSC organiser Konda Prasanth who imparted computer training to more than 2,000 people so far, received the best CSC organiser award in the State from Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao on June 15. Speaking to The Hans India, he attributed his success to the excellent co-operation extended by people of Makra (K) to his efforts to promote digital literacy.

The villagers showed keen interest to become computer literates to avail the benefits of Information Technology for their economic uplift. The Village Development Centre (VDC) which was playing a key role in enlightening people ensured the success of NDLM in Makra (K), he said.

The village is also in the forefront in utilisation of mKisan services. Many farmers of the village got accustomed to exploring the Internet to obtain information pertaining to modern methods of cultivation. Students of the village have also become more tech-savvy, which helps them perform well in studies.

Pramod, a farmer, said, “Computer literacy needs to be promoted in a big way in rural areas to achieve growth. It helps enlighten the rural masses which is vital to alleviate poverty in the country.”

VDC chairman Gadge Subhash said, “More people in the village will become computer literates if a CSC is set up in Makra (K). There is a need to provide broadband connectivity to the village to make the people enjoy the benefits of IT.”
