Telangana Palle Pragathi project (Telangana Rural Inclusive Growth Project – TRIGP) focuses on enabling the institutional platforms of the poor to achieve ‘inclusive growth’ by expanding and diversifying livelihood opportunities.
Telangana Palle Pragathi project (Telangana Rural Inclusive Growth Project – TRIGP) focuses on enabling the institutional platforms of the poor to achieve ‘inclusive growth’ by expanding and diversifying livelihood opportunities. There are five components, such as Value Chain development, Human Development, Palle Pragathi Seva Kendra, Information Communication & Technology (ICT) Partnerships and Project Implementation Support. The beneficiaries targeted are small and marginal farmers and the SC/ST households in the 150 most backward Mandals, covering about 6,000 villages in the State.
The total cost for the proposed Project has been estimated at Rs 642 crore with the Government share of Rs.192 crore and Rs.450 crore funded by the World Bank. The project period is 5 years starting from February 2015 to February 2020.
Performance of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under SERP:
The Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) works on a comprehensive multi-dimensional poverty alleviation strategy by focusing on Building strong/sustainable institutions for the poor. SERP works through a network of Community Based Organizations (CBOs). Nearly 90 percent of the poor households in the State are members of these community institutions. As of December 2015, there were about 47.5 lakh SHG members in about 4.36 lakh SHGs organized into 18,277 Village Organizations (VOs), 438 Mandal Samakhyas (MSs) and 9 ZillaSamakhyas (ZS).
Under the SHG-Bank Linkage, during 2014-15, about 1.9 lakh groups were provided bank linkage with about Rs. 2 lakh per SHG finance, which has increased to Rs. 2.6 lakh per SHG during the financial year 2015-16. A total of 79,944 groups (up to Nov) have been provided bank linkage.
A total of 2.9 lakh SHGs has availed Vaddi Leni Runalu/Total Interest Subvention during 2014-15. So far, a total of 70,277 SHGs has availed with Rs.8,204 per SHG during 2015-16.
Stree Nidhi Federation mobilizes borrowings from banks and savings from SHGs. It can extend finance up to Rs. 1 lakh per member for taking up income generating activities. Stree Nidhi loan disbursement in during 2015-16 (up to Dec 15) was Rs.539.93 crore .A total of Rs.1985.87 crore were disbursed to 10.2 lakh members of 2 lakh SHGs since its inception.
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS):
MGNREGS is being implemented in 8826 Gram Panchayats in 438 mandals of 9 districts. Since inception, 56.10 lakh job cards issued covering 1.3 crore wage seekers under the scheme. The government has taken certain key decisions taken during 2015-16, such as (i) enhancing wage rate to Rs. 180 from Rs. 169 w.e.f. 01/04/201, (ii) providing 50 additional days of wage employment to the households who have completed 100 days in 231 droughts declared Mandals, and (iii) convergence of MGNREGA with Gram Jyothi program, etc.
Rural Water Supply & Sanitation
Presently there are 24,802 habitations in rural Telangana (see Fig 2), out of which 7480 (30%) are fully covered, 4,135 (17%) habitations are covered with Partially Covered (PC)4 status, 5,618 (23%) are covered with PC3, 3817 (15%) are covered with PC2, 2410 (10%) are covered with PC1 and 1342 (5%) are under QA.

As on 30.11.2015, there are 1.6 lakh hand pumps, 25,100 PWS Schemes, and 160 CPWS Schemes are existing in rural areas in the State. For the year 2015-16, 2106 habitations (i.e., 1920 partially covered habitations and 186 quality affected habitations) are targeted for coverage. Out of which, 1361 habitations are covered i.e., 1139 partially covered habitations and 122 quality affected habitations as on November 2015.
