Khammam: The district administration has fixed a target of planting 4.04 crore saplings for the 2017-18 fiscal. This was revealed by District Collector DS Lokesh Kumar at a review meeting here on Friday.

Stating that district has achieved plantation of over 3.77 crore saplings during the ongoing Haritha Haram programme till date, the Collector said that they have an action plan to plant 4.04 crore saplings next year.

To achieve the target, the administration has decided to grow 4.95 crore saplings of different varieties in various nurseries, he added.
“Focus is on to grow fruit-bearing saplings, besides teak and medicinal plants,” the Collector said, directing the heads of various departments to chalk out their action plan.

While reviewing the ongoing plantation drive mandal-wise, he told the officials to take care of the saplings by deputing coordinators. He also told the officials to maintain registers panchayat-wise about the ongoing plantation drive.

Reviewing the progress of individual sanitary latrines (ISLs), he said that till date district has achieved 70 per cent of the target. Stressing the need for creating awareness about the importance of ISLs, he told the MPDOs to involve the local people’s representatives to achieve 100 per cent target.

Joint Collector D Divya warned the LPG agencies of stringent action if they fleece the Deepam beneficiaries. She instructed the officials to speed up the distribution of LPG connections and achieve the target by next fortnight.

Till date, 31,628 LPG connections against the target of 50,000 have been provided to beneficiaries. She commended Gundala and Pinapaka MPDOs for achieving 100 per cent target in Deepam scheme.

ZP CEO M Nagesh, RDOs Vinay Krishna Reddy, Ravindranath, DWMA PO Jagat Kumar Reddy and DSO Usha Rani were among others present.
